Catholic couples deserve real answers about sex

The Catholic Church teaches that sex in marriage is good, holy and meant to be enjoyed by both spouses. The Catechism calls it "a source of joy and pleasure" (CCC 2362). What couples are missing is not permission. It is clear, practical answers to the questions they are too embarrassed to ask out loud.

Scruples in the bedroom

You keep wondering whether something you both enjoy is a sin, and the doubt follows you into confession.

Different levels of desire

One of you wants sex far more often, and every conversation about it ends with someone feeling rejected.

After a baby

Sleep is gone, your body has changed, NFP rules look confusing, and intimacy keeps getting postponed.

Trust after pornography

A secret came to light. You want to rebuild, but you do not know where healing actually starts.

Three doubts couples bring before they ask

"The name makes me nervous."

We chose a plain name because plain is what people type when they are searching alone at night. Inside, everything is calm and respectful. No nudity, no erotic content, nothing you would hide from your spouse or your priest.

"How do I know it is really Catholic?"

Do not take our word for it. Every answer links to the Catechism or the Church document it quotes. Where theologians disagree, we tell you that too, and our doctrine and sources policy is public.

"We should just figure this out ourselves."

Many couples try for years. A shared vocabulary and one honest program often save the months of silence that come before. You can still do it your way, you just will not be guessing anymore.

  1. Step 1

    Ask in your own words

Type it the way you would say it to a friend you trust, then pick a topic and your life stage.

  2. Step 2

We search the Church's own words

The Catechism, encyclicals, Vatican II and the US bishops. If nothing covers your question, it tells you so.

  3. Step 3

Read a clear answer you can check

A short summary, plain English and numbered sources linked to vatican.va or usccb.org.

CCC 2362

Every answer shows where it comes from

Most advice about Catholic sex sounds confident and cites nothing. We built the opposite. Every claim points to a numbered source that opens the original document, so you can read the paragraph yourself and show it to your spouse.

How we choose and check sources Husband holding open a thick book while his wife compares a paragraph with the laptop beside them
  • Doctrine is labeled as doctrine

When the Catechism or a council teaches something, the answer says so plainly.

  • Opinion is labeled as opinion

Where moral theologians reason from principles, you are told it is opinion, not dogma.

  • Medical questions go to a doctor

Pain, fertility or healing after birth get basic facts and a nudge to your doctor.

  • Nothing is invented

If no verified source covers your question, the assistant says so and suggests a priest.

CCC 2363

Questions couples ask us first

Short answers here. Ask the assistant above for an answer with sources on anything else, or write to [email protected] about your account.

Is oral sex a sin in Catholic marriage?

The Catechism does not list specific acts. It teaches that spouses "do nothing evil" in seeking pleasure together (CCC 2362) and that every marital act stays open to life and to real union (Humanae Vitae 12). From those principles, many faithful moral theologians hold that kissing and touching, oral stimulation included, can be part of foreplay when both of you welcome it and it leads to intercourse completed in the natural way. Climax deliberately sought outside intercourse is not reconciled with that teaching. This is a common theological opinion, not a defined doctrine, so the assistant labels it that way and suggests a priest when your conscience is unsettled.

Read the full answer with sources.

Is NFP just Catholic birth control?

No, and the difference is not only a technicality. Contraception acts against the fertility of a specific act. Natural Family Planning changes nothing about the act: a couple with a serious reason to avoid pregnancy simply abstains during fertile days (Humanae Vitae 16, CCC 2370). The Church also asks about the reason, so NFP used with a selfish intention can still be wrong. Many couples find that charting together builds communication, patience and respect for each other's bodies. NFP is also used to achieve pregnancy, which no contraceptive does.

NFP and contraception compared.

Can the assistant replace confession or a priest?

No. Ask with Sources explains what the Church teaches and shows you the paragraph it comes from. It cannot hear your confession, give absolution or judge your personal culpability, and it says so in every answer. Many couples use it to get clear before they talk to a priest, so the conversation in the confessional is shorter and calmer. If your question is really about your own conscience, the assistant points you to the sacrament.

Is it private?

Yes. You can ask the sample question without an account and without your name. Members ask under an account that only you and your spouse share, and you can delete your question history at any time. We never sell your data, we show no ads, and billing is discreet. Nothing on the site is explicit, so it is safe to open on a shared laptop.

Is this site explicit or pornographic?

No. There is no nudity, no erotic content and no images of sex anywhere on CatholicSex. The library teaches in plain, respectful language, the way a good Catholic doctor or counselor would talk to a married couple. The assistant refuses requests for explicit descriptions or stories.

Can an AI really answer moral questions?

It does not invent moral teaching. It searches a verified collection of Church documents, the Catechism, papal encyclicals and exhortations, Vatican II and documents of the US bishops, and builds the answer only from passages it found. Every claim carries a citation you can open. When no source covers your question, it says so instead of guessing. It also labels what is doctrine, what is theological opinion and what is medical information.

We are engaged, not married yet. Is this for us?

Yes. The engaged track covers what the Church teaches about sex before marriage, how to prepare for the wedding night and how NFP works, in language that is honest without being explicit. The 8 week program Engaged, Preparing for the Wedding Night is part of the Couples Program, and your parish can enroll you through the Parish plan.

Will our parish accept the Engaged program for marriage preparation?

Requirements differ by diocese, so ask your priest or marriage prep coordinator. Couples who finish the Engaged program receive a completion certificate to show the parish. Parishes on the Parish plan enroll couples directly, follow their progress and download the certificates for the marriage file.

Does it replace marriage counseling?

It does not, and it does not pretend to. For many couples, clear teaching and a guided program are what they were missing. When you need a person, the Couples Program includes a private 30 minute video consultation with a Catholic therapist, sex therapist or NFP instructor every three months. In cases of abuse, addiction crisis or danger, we point you to local professional help right away.

Can we cancel?

Yes. You can cancel any time from the billing page in your account, with no call and no email needed. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. If you move to a higher plan, you pay the difference right away and the new plan starts at once.
